Troopers Make Arrest in Murder of Sunoco on Maryland Avenue – First State Update

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit arrested Marvin Dejesus-Santiago, 30, of Wilmington on first-degree murder and related charges following an incident in late August, according to the officer. Public Information, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incident was reported around 6:14 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, when soldiers responded to the Sunoco gas station at 1950 Maryland Avenue in Wilmington for a report of a downed subject. Upon arrival, a 34-year-old man, identified as Juan Alicea-Rodriguez, was located outside the convenience store with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation determined that two unknown men approached the victim outside the convenience store and opened fire, Hatchell said.

Through investigative means, homicide detectives have identified one of the suspects as Marvin Dejesus-Santiago Hatchell said Monday. DeJesus has been housed at the Violation of Probation Center at Sussex Correctional Institution since November 8, 2021. He was indicted by a grand jury on December 20, 2021 and on December 31, 2021 he was brought before the justice of the peace. Court1.
