Soldiers Identify Bridgeville ‘Murder-Suicide’ Victim, Suspect – State’s First Update
Delaware State Police are investigating a homicide-suicide in the Bridgeville area that occurred Thursday night, according to Master Corporal Heather Pepper, a public information officer.
Pepper said around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, soldiers were dispatched to Block 100 of Emily’s Pintail Drive for a shooting report.
Prior to their arrival, it was determined that the owners, a 71-year-old male Pierre Colletti and his wife returned to their residence around 9:30 p.m. Colletti’s wife was in the bathroom on the first floor when she heard footsteps on the second floor, where her 58-year-old brother, later identified as Joseph Caldarera, resides. Immediately after hearing the footsteps, she heard a loud bang. When she got out of the bathroom, she found her husband in the family room with an apparent gunshot wound. The woman ran to a neighbor’s house where the police were called.
Localized intervention agents Colletti died in the family room with an apparent gunshot wound. They then searched the residence and located the deceased suspect upstairs in his bedroom with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The bodies have been turned over to the Forensic Sciences Division where an autopsy will be performed to determine the mode and cause of death.
The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate this suspected murder / suicide incident and there are no public safety concerns, Pepper said. No motive has been established for this incident.
