17-year-old charged with stabbing murder in Holloway Terrace on Monday – First State Update
County police have made an arrest in the stabbing murder we first reported to you yesterday.
At approximately 12:25 p.m. Monday, patrol officers from the New Castle County Police Division (NCCPD) were dispatched to Sixth Street in the community of Mayview Manor for a report of a knife attack, according to the NCCPD spokesperson. , M/Cpl. Michael Eckerd.
Eckerd said upon arrival that the 33-year-old victim, Matthew Hessey, was on the front porch of the residence and was apparently suffering from a stab wound to the chest.
Initial reports from the scene said medics worked on Hessey while officers worked to clean up the house. Hessey was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Eckard said detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit have named a 17-year-old man as a suspect. The juvenile is the boyfriend of Matthew’s girlfriend’s daughter, Eckard added.
Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit were able to locate the suspect at his home and take him into custody without incident.
The minor was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with one count of first degree murder, one count of possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony and one count of possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $1 million cash bond.
